Just one more day at Kaisei Junior High School
First and second-year students from Kaisei Junior High School are diving into an exciting English immersion event from July 8th to 11th.
They’re experiencing long-term English immersion through special communication classes led by foreign teachers from around the globe. The goal? To get students actively using English through fun games and activities, while also giving them the chance to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Split into small groups, our students have already learned about each teacher’s home country. This year we have teachers from Jamaica, France, Taiwan and the U.S.A. One of my favorite parts of this program is hearing the surprised voices of the students as they hear about interesting places, foods and events from these visiting teachers.
It’s also fun to see our students speaking about themselves and their interests. One way of doing this was through a popular ice-breaking game from overseas called “Two truths and a lie”. Students prepared three sentences about themselves, but one of the sentences was not true. They had to read their sentences in front of the other members, then the other members would guess which of the three statements was a lie.
From today, with the help of the teachers, our students will prepare presentations that they will present in front of the entire grade on the final day. Two days is not a lot of time to prepare and practice, but I think our students do a great job every year.
There is just one more day left of the program at Kaisei Junior High School. Tomorrow, our visiting teachers will say good-bye to our students. After nearly a week of trying their best, I’m sure it will be an emotional day for everyone.
To any family members or friends of current or former Kaisei Junior High School students who read this blog, maybe you can ask them about their ISA program experiences and find out how it was for them, too.
