Introducing Kaisei to the world

This is the third year that Kaisei High School has participated in a Student Exchange program with Italy’s Cambi High School.

Participating in the exchange program is restricted to high school students, so junior high school students can usually only get a chance to interact with the visiting Italian students through family members, friends or clubs. However, this year some of our junior high school students had a chance to contribute the exchange in their own way.

Today, several junior high school students gave presentations to the visiting Italian students. All of the presentations were done in English.

They introduced aspects of Kaisei Junior and Senior High School: from its history to the current number of students. And they talked about Nagasaki culture: introducing the Kunchi Festival, local foods and helpful Japanese phrases that the Italian students could use with their host families.

At the same time, Kaisei’s Tea Ceremony Club hosted small groups of visiting students. Two of our junior high school students are members of the Tea Ceremony Club. The club demonstrated how tea ceremony is held and gave the visiting students a chance to try Japanese tea and sweets. Many were surprised by the tastes and enjoyed the rare experience.

In the coming days, junior high school members of the English Club and the Japanese Archery Club will also have chances to interact with the visiting students through peace talk events and a Japanese archery showcase.

We hope that our students can make the most of these opportunities and leave the Italian students with fond memories to take back home.
